Mark 12: 1-12
Recently we discussed Matthew 5:19 during a Sunday service. Jesus
had strong words for those who might relax the tenets of God’s law for
their own personal benefit. Using the beauty of allegory, Jesus again
shifts focus toward those who fail to lead by example. Jesus makes it
abundantly clear how God feels about those who oppress their people
and neglect their responsibilities. God cares deeply about the plight of
who Jesus refers to as the least of these and He made His point
abundantly clear.
Amazingly, Jesus confronts the evil of the day while simultaneously
pointing to the sacrificial love of the Father, through His son. The act of
His Son giving His life as a ransom for many is “marvelous in our eyes.”
He gave His life that we, through Him, might have lives that are rich and
full, both now and forever (John 10:10). He is the cornerstone upon
Whom our lives are to be built. Not upon our own power, but upon His
justice and grace. Such marvelous truth gives us the power to stand up
for what’s right, to speak truth in love, and to enjoy fellowship with
Abba.
Think about current events: in what ways have you seen world leaders
discard or neglect others so they may advance their own personal
ambition? How could you respond in a way that reflects God’s heart
even as the world seeks to deny His existence?
In the midst of all we see around us, how have you experienced the
marvel of God’s love? Who needs to experience some of that love
through your actions this Lent?
