Luke 22:39-46; John 18:1

What is temptation? The word itself connotes the idea of being put to
the test. In today’s reading, the disciples were put to the test as they
fought to stay alert in prayer (they did not succeed). We often restrict
temptation to the concept of being seduced, when in fact, it can also be a
challenge we face, a test of our response, or the orientation of our mind
as things occur around us.

Jesus, facing His greatest temptation yet, submitting to the will of the
Father at GREAT personal cost, again instructs His disciples even in the
midst of His own suffering. Jesus teaches a critical truth: prayer is
foundational in our battle against temptation.

How can prayer help you battle temptation?

What do you need to bring to the Lord in prayer today as you seek
victory over temptation?

In what ways might you currently be put to the test? How have you
responded?
